Usually, it’s 6 magnets, one for each string. Guitar pickups in simple terms, consist of magnet, wrapped in coils of wire. But how does it do this? Well, to understand things properly, you need to know about the structure. So of course, the function of a guitar pickup is to detect the sound of your guitar, and then send it to an amplifier where it can be processed and played through a speaker. So before we get into the nitty gritty and talk about the different types of pickups etc., I though it would be a good idea to get clear about exactly what pickups do, how they work, and what they look like. ![]()
